In 2020, many people have upgraded their laptop and tech setup. And, with a new laptop comes the need for a new tech backpack to carry and protect it.
Because of these new laptop purchases, the Knack Team has gotten a lot of inquiries on what is the right-sized Knack Pack for some of today’s popular new laptops. So, we put together this post on the Knack Pack size that may be right for you – based on your laptop’s size.
Knack Pack: A Great Laptop Backpack
The Knack Team is 100% remote so we understand the need for a tech backpack with lots of compartments to carry your laptop as well as your other tech gear. We designed every size of Knack Pack with a separate, dedicated, padded laptop pocket that zips closed to keep your laptop safe.
Quick Note: Form Factor
It’s important to note that the size of the laptop that fits into your Knack is determined by the Knack’s computer pocket’s zip opening size and not the size of the laptop pocket itself.
So, to ensure our list is accurate, we hand fit each Knack with a form factor representing each laptop’s published dimensions. (Note: We compiled this list based on reports for the best and most popular laptops in 2019 and 2020 from Tech Radar and PC Magazine. If you have questions about your specific laptop, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.)
Here's an example. Will a 15.6 inch laptop fits in a laptop sleeve? A 15.6 inch laptop won't fit into a 15 inch laptop sleeve, but it will fit into a 17" laptop sleeve. That's because the laptop's form factor is larger than the matching form factor for Knack's laptop pocket.
Manufacturer's Laptop Measurements
First off, a word about laptop measurements. In general, when a laptop claims to be “X inches” or has a screen size of “X inches”, usually the measurement refers to the length of a diagonal line running from the outside edge of one corner of the screen to the outside edge of the opposite corner. Additionally, some laptop brands round this measurement up and some round it down so it becomes challenging to know if a laptop fits simply by using the manufacturers’ claimed size.

Will a 17 inch laptop fit in a backpack?
A 17 inch laptop will fit in a backpack with a 17 inch laptop sleeve, but you should never try to squeeze a 17 inch laptop into a laptop sleeve that is any smaller. This is because doing so can put unnecessary pressure on your laptop, and can stretch out your bag. But here's the good news: Usually, the laptop sleeve in a backpack is smaller than the main compartment, so you can likely fit a 17 inch laptop in the main compartment of an average backpack.
Knack Pack Hack: Tablet Sleeve in Main Compartment
Fun Fact: Not all Knackpackers put their computer in the laptop compartment, choosing instead to put it in the tablet sleeve in the main compartment. This is also a great solution for people who have to carry a work and personal laptop, needing two separate spots, or for people who love their Knack Pack but find the computer pocket opening to be a bit small for their laptop.
