We love it when Knackpackers send us photos of their travels, from Antarctica to Costa Rica! Seeing this love of adventure, the Knack Team thought it would be a great idea to share our recommendations for visiting different cities.
We’re a 100% remote company, so over the next few months we’ll share recommendations for visiting places like Dallas, Texas, Providence, Rhode Island, Denver, Colorado – and a few other cities.
Today, Knack CDO, Keith Bristol, shares his recommendations for making the most out of a business trip to Portland, Oregon.
High End Hotels to Stay in Portland, Oregon
I don’t have specific AirBnBs to recommend, but when we were considering moving to Portland the two favorite places we stayed were The Nines and Hotel Lucia.
If you want to travel in style, The Nines is a modern and stylish luxury hotel located in a historic building in the heart of downtown Portland. If you’re looking for something that feels more local and “Portland-esque,” I’d go with Hotel Lucia – they have an excellent Craft Brew Hour.

Where to Eat in Portland - Recommendations for Foodies
There are SO many amazing restaurants in PDX so it depends on the food mood you’re in.
For breakfast or brunch one of my favorites is Tasty n Alder because the food is unique and their plates are shareable portions. Favorite dishes are probably The Whole Toad and Korean Fried Chicken but everything there is so delicious.
For lunch I love to stop by Elephants Delicatessen, it’s a Portland staple. I’m also a fan of SeaSweet Poke (build your own Poke bowl).
When it comes to dinner, I can’t pick just one but a few of my favorites are; Andina (Peruvian), Ringside Steakhouse and New Taste of India. Seriously, the food scene here is amazing and you can find anything that you’re in the mood for!
Recommended Breweries in Portland
The beer scene in PDX is pretty spectacular. Some of my favorites include; Great Notion Brewing, Deschutes Brewery, Ecliptic Brewing, and Ex Novo to name a few. Like whiskey? You MUST go to Multnomah Whiskey Library for a massive selection of killer whiskey.
Work Trip FTW
A lot of Knackpackers travel for work, so I wanted to share some of my favorite coffee shops and coworking spaces in Portland.
Coffee Shops in Portland for Business Travelers
I’m always traveling to meetings at coffee shops around the Portland area. A few of my favorite are; Stumptown, Coava, Nossa Familia, and Case Study.
Coworking Spaces in Portland
My personal favorite coworking space is Urban Office, that’s where I work when I’m not working from home. I have a floating desk there. I have friends that work at others like; CENTRL Office, Industrious and of course WeWork.
The Great Outdoors
If you decide to stay the weekend, you’ve got to take advantage of the beautiful nature around Portland. This is the main reason my family moved to the Portland area. The fact that we can get to the coast in about an 1.5 hours – or go hiking or skiing in the Cascade Mountains in the same timeframe is pretty amazing.
We love city life but we also love the weekend getaway to the coast, we really enjoy Cannon Beach as well as Manzanita. A great way to relax for sure. We also enjoy heading to Mt. Hood, Hood River or travel to Bend for the weekend. My favorite outdoor experience would have to be Crater Lake, it’s lake at the top of a sleeping volcano and it’s beauty is indescribable.
The Best Carryon Expandable Backpack
If you’re going on a 2-3 day business trip, you don’t need to check a bag! The Medium Sized Knack Pack can expand to hold 2-3 changes of clothes, and then be compressed before heading out to your meetings. If you want a more elevated look, you’ll want to go for the Medium Knack Backpack in Premium Napa Leather.
